WOLVERHAMPTON HOMELESS OUTREACH 2016

Wolverhampton Homeless Outreach provides day to day essentials for rough sleepers in the city. It is made up of volunteers who give their time to our friends on the street.

We have a designated meeting place where volunteers meet for outreach and begin the route which takes around 2/3 hours.

Food and drink supplies consist of hot drinks, water, hot food such as pasta pots and noodles, sandwiches, cakes, chocolate, fruit, cereal bars and much more. These food donations come from Greggs, Waitrose and the generous public.

We also hand out items such as toiletries, warm clothing, sleeping bags, foil blankets, tents, shoes, hats, scarves, gloves and any other requests.

An important part of outreach is building trusting relationships with individuals to ensure they are aware of the support they can receive from local services.

Our teams go out 7 nights a week, 52 weeks of the year.

PATHWAY PROJECT 2018

Pathway Project works to support adults, young people and children, who are experiencing or affected by domestic abuse.

Pathway aim to provide a range of high quality services, meeting the needs of abused adults and children, in a caring environment.

Pathway Project is a real grass roots service, which began in the late 80s when a woman tried to get help when her life was falling apart due to domestic abuse.

She was desperate, her children were living in constant fear and she felt that there was nothing left to live for. She reached out for help and found that there was little available, and that no-one really understood or knew much about domestic abuse and apparently, she was a very isolated case. She finally managed to leave and found safety for herself and her three children with friends.

The thought of others suffering in silence in that same living hell made her press on with the dream of opening a women’s refuge.

HALOW BIRMINGHAM 2021

HALOW (Birmingham) started life in the mid 1980’s in a cramped ‘two-up, two-down’ terraced house in Winson Green, Birmingham where Marie Curtis had a dedicated group of volunteers, helped other prisoners’ wives and family members through the stresses and strains of serving ‘the second sentence’. Over five years the self-help community group developed to become a registered charity in October 1990. At the 1990 Annual General Meeting it was reported that 4,000 requests for help had been dealt with during the year; a considerable achievement for one full-time member of staff and a dedicated team of volunteers offering a 24 hour helpline. HALOW (Birmingham) has grown to become a major provider of Visitors’ Centre services, and has, in partnership with six prisons in the West Midlands area over the past 30 years.
